In the last several posts I have already commented how dissatisfied with the Westin I was at the lack of titanium / platinum benefits for guests... no breakfast, late checkouts or even bottled water in the room... but should you stay here?
Well what I would say is that the breakfast is actually very good overall and quite reasonable at $23 a person with a huge spread from which to choose from.
The pool areas too are vast and there is good direct access to the beach and nearby sea with plenty of seating around the pools.
The room itself was also a good size and colourfully decorated for a one bedroom villa suite. It wasn’t much more to pay for this room than a regular bedroom so I figured I would upgrade myself since SNAs aren’t honoured here.
I was frustrated at the length of time checkin took at almost 25 minutes waiting time before I was processed (extremely slowly).
The lack of any Bonvoy benefits is also a surprise and disappointment considering you only need to scroll up a few posts to see that breakfast (at the very least) was being offered. But the lack of even bottled water is pretty pathetic and they even tried to impose an insane checkout time of 10am! I managed to agree on midday.
I wouldn’t NOT recommend staying here but as long as you arrive knowing what you are NOT receiving then you will be fine.
One positive is the superb location of the hotel to Las Islas shopping mall which is full of shops, bars and restaurants right across the street. For this alone, it might make the location worthwhile as there is plenty to see and do including some great restaurants and the Cancun aquarium. But truly, apart from the Westin bed, the hotel might as well have been from a completely different chain altogether.
It also took a full week for my points to post too!
