Related to this, I just booked an EVA itin on Orbitz and went to the EVA website after ticketing and added my UA star-gold number. It now says:

Frequent Flyer No.:
xxxxxxxxxx / United Airlines - MileagePlus / Star Alliance Gold

However, when I go to the Seat assignment, it wants to charge my for the seats I select. I thought seat selection was free for *Gold.
