One-way vs round-trip fares on NZ

I've noticed that when I've been searching for flights on ITA, all NZ fares seem to be one-way. Is this necessarily the case, I distinctly recall seeing round-trip fares on EF when I used to have a subscription, but I might be just misunderstanding something. I've flown NZ quite a bit, but have mostly just gone through travel agents. Now that I'm trying to piece together an open-jaw, it seems that NZ only sells tickets as one-way fares and have combination rules that mean that they pretty much function as return tickets if needed. My read into it is that NZ doesn't really offer much of a discount, if at all, if you are booking a round-trip compared with combining two one-ways. Am I completely missing something or misunderstanding something here?
Cheers!
