I don't think it had anything to do with the lines at the old domestic security. It was done so they can guarantee that all pax from connecting domestic flights are screened at BKK. Previously, you could transfer domestic - domestic at BKK without being screened at BKK.

That's what was cited when somebody posted the link to the newspaper article. Not sure if that was here in this forum or I saw it on FB.
