My question is, provided that the total cost is the same or less and I can find availability, can I ask Air Canada to change the outbound or inbound to YYZ - HND - PVG (or PVG- HND - YYZ) to have half a day stopover in Tokyo? I absolutely love the city and want to at least buy some souvenirs there.

Im willing to put all extra charges on my own cc when I call AC. It’s a direct booking with AC via their website.

But I don’t want my employer to find out that I’m changing the flight for a stopover!
It depends if it was booked through a Travel Agebt. If it was you will not be able to change it except by dealing with the TA. Depending on the fare class changing it may or may not cost you a change fee and or a TA booking fee.

if the company just bought it directly from AC (through the website for example) then you can call AC and change it and charge any fees to your own card. I don’t believe you will need access to the corporate card to do this as long as the ticket is in your name. Beware that if you have to cancel then you will lose any charges to your personal card — AC can only reimburse one card for a refund.
