But if it costs less than the original booking, then you're literally throwing your employer's money away, which is probably bad.

If it costs a bit more (as I expect it would, given a P fare generally doesn't get cheaper by adding connections), then I don't see why anyone would have an issue.

However, there will be a change fee.
