Just got my 50 days (today) with Marriott and I was told by the guy at the check desk that my status will be reset on the 1st of Jan. I wasn't quite sure what he ment but I think he ment that I have achieved Platium Elite (when the app updates) but only for a few days and when the 1st of Jan comes, I will go back down to no status and work my way back up next year ? If you achieved 50 elite qualifying nights in 2019, you will have Platinum Elite status for the remainder of 2019, for all of 2020, and for the first month of 2021.
This has nothing to do with a soft landing. A soft landing could come into play if you fail to achieve 50 elite qualifying nights in 2020.
Because you achieved 50 nights in 2019, you will also be able to pick an Annual Choice Benefit, such a 5 Suite Night Awards good through the end of 2020.
The counter resets to zero at the beginning of each year. But that doesn't mean everyone's status gets revoked.
