I wouldn't have thought this would be the case becasue airlines have a "soft landing" which should land me back to Gold ? Anyway, I am not sure how it works which is why I am asking.
So since I am now technically PE, when 1st of Jan hits, would I still be PE (but with stays set back to 0) or will I be a non status member and need to work up the tiers again ?
Also, out of interest, would I normally be eligible to be upgraded to a suite (if available) even if I stayed the cheapest room ? (or is the upgrade fixed at 1 room above the one I am currently booked at?8)
Are you saying you've just hit Platinum from staying 50 nights? If so, your status will remain as Platinum throughout the whole of next year (status is valid for the year earned and also the following calendar year), congratulations. Even then, Marriott status doesn't end on 31st December just like that, you have up until 31st of December to earn your nights / stays, but unless Marriott has changed the rules this year you are given a grace period until 31st of January before your status expires. Marriott has historically offered soft landings too but I don't think we've had any official confirmation if that will continue this year or not (this won't be relevant for you until January 2021 anyway).
Yes, you will be eligible for an upgrade to a standard suite, if available, as long as you book a publicly available rate directly through a Marriott channel. Be aware that implementation of this may vary and many hotels will have a lot more elites staying than suites available, but those are the rules.
