Skis are a PITA when one has to schlep them multiple places. If you fly with multiple people and be in one place it is not so bad. That said, IMHO the biggest issue with skis is finding a bag for them. Airlines will typically make you sign a waiver if using a soft sided bag. Hard sided bags are great but then a PITA the rest of the year.

My suggestion if you want to buy but wait til the end of the year. Look for demos skis sales.
