Way better than MLife Gold is to status match to Wydham Diamond and then status match from that to Caesars Diamond which gets you a $100 dining credit, a 15% discount off rooms, waived resort fees (a huge deal in Vegas) and even three "free" nights at Atlantis in Bahamas (lots of asterisks on that one). Caesars Diamond actually is quite valuable while MLife Gold pretty much lets you skip a line or two.
I think you're right overall, however I like Borgata in Atlantic City. The match gets me comped rooms and free parking. I could then match M-life gold with several other local casino's for similar benefits.
The main point being, Hyatt Globalist is an excellent status, I make it a point to keep it.
