Speaking hypothetically...

For those with a US AMEX Plat:
$60k p.a. on flights = 300,000 MR points
Plus other assorted spend, MR bonus points offers, retention bonus, transfer bonus to BA Exec club and it’s very possible to build up 500k Avios (excluding the Avios for actually flying BA)

Plenty of point-rich people out there.
