Limited Express "Super View Odoriko" end service on March 2020
JR East has announced that limited express train Super View Odoriko which runs between Tokyo/Shinjuku/Ikebukuro - Izukyu Shimoda will end service on March 2020. Trains which used on Super View Odoriko (251 train) started run to Izukyu Shimoda on April 1990. 251 train has high deck floor, two Green Car with salon room on lower floor of car no. 1, car no. 2 Green Car has private room setting, regular car no. 10 has baby room and kids room on a lower floor which is a free space, car no 5 has a snack stand. But due to its age of the train JR East has decided to retire 251 train on March 2020 when JR East is going to have schedule change.
In place of Super View Odoriko JR East will start service of limited express Saphir Odoriko run by new train E261. E261 is 8 cars long Saphir Odoriko will be all Green Car service. Car no. 1 is Premium Green Car with 1 x 1 across seating. Car no. 2 and car no. 3 are room compartment setting 4 or 6 maximum passengers per room. Car no. 4 is a noodle bar, where ramen and other light dishes will be served. Car no. 5 - 8 are regular Green Car with 1 x 2 across seating. Each car will have a space for large suite cases, free W-Fi through out the train, and each seat has a power plug.
JR East started Izu Craile on July 2016 between Odawara - Izukyu Shimoda on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, only. Izu Craile serves bento box during the trip with bar counter and lounge. Izu Craile is sold as a part of package with hotel stay at Izukyu Shimoda area, cannot buy a ticket for Izu Craile alone. JR East seems to putting some efforts on Izu peninsula. Izu peninsula is a popular destination, but because of a peninsula roads in and out is from north side only and roads in Izu peninsula tend to be narrow single lane roads. During holiday period traffic is often slow going at Izu peninsula. Train remain popular option for Izu peninsula.
