The Navy Yard area is questionable, but right now, so is Dupont. A waiter, beloved by many, was murdered after his shift was over a few weeks ago at Annie's Paramount Steak House on 17th Street, NW, which is the center of the Dupont Gay 'Hood. Muggings have increased recently though D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams has pledged more police. As in any big city, use your wits and trust your instincts.

The Crew Club has recently been remodeled and has a nice steam room, private "lockers," sauna, tanning salon, lounge, and gym equipment, in case you need a work out. Tuesday night is half price night, and brings in the men. It can be fun. Of course, late weekend nights are popular too, especially after the "last call" by the local bars.

The Navy Yard area has Velvet Nation, a huge dance venue that is gay only on weekends, plus a couple of male dancer clubs, and a drag show place (not a fave of mine).
