Arrow Hilton Garden Inn Vilnius City Centre {LTU}

In September I spent four nights at this hotel which opened a couple of months earlier. Like other recent Hilton properties the hotel is not exactly in “city centre” though most places tourists may wish to visit are within walking distance. It’s just under a mile from the Cathedral Square which is on the edge of the Old Town of Vilnius, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is in a pleasant area close to a largish park (Lukiškės Square), government buildings and the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights (aka KGB Museum).

It was an award stay for 20k points per night. I can’t remember why I decided to stay on points as room rates were very reasonable but by the time I tried to change to a pre-paid stay it was not possible to do so.

When I arrived at the hotel about 30 minutes before the check-in time I was given a choice. The room earmarked for me (high floor, away from elevators) was not ready but I could instead have a room on the same floor facing the atrium. Since I preferred a window facing out I decided to walk to the Old Town until my room was ready. On hind sight I should have asked about a room on a lower floor. There seem to be only 3 rooms on the top floor with external windows. I have not seen floor plans of other floors but if you look at the hotel from outside lower floors have many more rooms with windows facing out. The standard room award did not include breakfast and I was given a choice of breakfast or 1000 points. I opted for breakfast.

The room was not large but perfectly adequate for one person and everything was brand new and sparkling clean.

View from the room - not a very exciting view but at least I could look out

A welcome feature for me was the guest laundry with two washers and two dryers. As I had been travelling around for a couple of weeks I made full use of the facilities during my stay. There is also a small gym and an open air event space on the top floor.

The hotel’s restaurant, Beef Room, seems like a popular venue for functions. It was closed for functions on two evenings out of four when I was there but there is also a room service. Breakfast was better than average for HGIs with cooked to order omelettes, choice of beef, pork, or chicken cold cuts, etc. I only had breakfast in the restaurant and didn’t use the room service as there was no shortage of places to eat within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Vilnius was recently voted the cheapest European city break destination and well worth a visit. In addition to walking tours of Vilnius, a visit to the KGB Museum and walking around the self-proclaimed “Republic of Užupis” with its own constitution, I went on a day trip by local bus to Trakai, famous for its 14th century island castle.
