Terrible place for a hub, but a great place to catch a plane. Last Friday afternoon, running late, I pulled off Route 29 at 5:10, turned my Avis car in at 5:20, got to Terminal C at 5:30 and made my 5:50 NW departure to MSP. There aren't a lot of other airports in the country where I'd have made that flight.

Some prior poster mentioned that Piedmont ran a mini-hub at SYR in the 1980s. It was great. They had little Fokker jets fan out all over New York, New England and south from there, and I once connected through SYR spending a total of 11 minutes on the ground -- didn't even go inside, just ran from one idling plane to another on the tarmac. Can't do that anymore.
