If U.S. Air were to file again, doesn't it usually take at least a year for even the possibility of liquidation to occur. UAL has been in ch 11 for over a year, I believe.
Well, I'm no bankruptcy lawyer, but at this stage in the game, ANYTHING is possible. Don't forget the final days of Braniff Airlines back in 1982...... sure, the airline was in poor health and had had many months of rough roads, but in the middle of May one day, the creditors put down their collective feet and the call was issued to all aircraft to RETURN TO DALLAS Headquarters at once. Some aircraft flew back to DFW empty (just crew) and others were generous enough to go ahead and board at the gates as planned and make one final flight home to Texas. The last flight, I believe, was the 747 inbound flight from HNL. With the landing of that plane, the airline was officially dead. All that happened over the course of 36 hours.
To presume that US may be headed back into Chapter 11 may also be false. They may head right into Chapter 7.
I hate to stir the pot or be a prophet of doom , so please don't take my comments as such. However, it would be lofty to think that some overseeing authority will ensure that our DM miles are protected for at least another year.......
