Can someone please tell me what their opinion is on getting 27,000 Asia miles as soon as possible to redeem a F reward form USA to Asia?

CX says I can buy it for about USD 700. But also I guess I can get a cheap ticket LAX to SYDNEY and get enough miles as a Gold Member for the same price. The problem is I really dont have time to do the flight and I must get the miles before the balance expires.
