How do I love thee? Let me count the miles…Advice needed on administering the miles
First of all, I want to state that my main reason for wanting status is to get the extra weight entitlement. I’m fed up of the Sophie’s Choice torture inflicted by a pathetic 20kgs. This is why I’ve opted for Asiana’s Mileage club (OZ) – once I’ve accumulated 100k (no time limit for this) I’ll have 3 years to get another 40k and from then on, it seems, I can keep *A Gold until OZ goes bankrupt and until then I’ll never have to worry about a meagre weight allowance!!!
Other people may dream of flying First and sipping scotch in a nice lounge, I just want to be able to pack a couple of extra shoes!
I don’t earn much, my Fiance earns even less, yet our relationship will have meant that between Feb last year and next March we will have flown over 100,000 miles between us.
Feb 2004 is when I decided to take FFPs seriously, the miles before this (about 80k) are lost – except for 17k languishing in an Air France account and I’m not sure if I could bear to fly with AF again)
So here’s the spreadsheet (European jaunts omitted as are hotel miles):
Me:
May: LHR-NRT LH 13,300 (in OZ account)
Nov: LHR-JFK UA 7,300 (thinking of putting it into BMI account – double miles)
Dec: LHR-NRT SK 13,000
Mar: LHR – NRT ?? 13,000
Mr LapLap (he has more time off but I contribute to the cost of flights)
Feb: NRT-LHR NH 12,000 (never credited, but ANA FFP card presented)
Jun: NRT-LHR CX 15,000 (still not credited, but I had signed him up with Alaska Air before trip, I’m just waiting for him to send me the boarding pass stubs back)
Nov: NRT-NY ?? 15,000
Nov: NY-LHR ?? 7,300 (hopefully UA for x2 miles on BD and a seat with me)
Feb: NRT-LHR ??between 12,000 & 15,000
I stick to *A when booking my flights, Mr LapLap refuses to consider mileage and gets the cheapest flight possible. I then get his booking class and work out what he’s eligible for. I chose Alaska Air as the miles don’t expire and it’s somewhere we want to go to.
And I really really need advice.
It would be nice to at least get silver next year – but I have two options.
Keep all the LHR-NRT miles in OZ so that I make 40,000 miles (I’ll have silver for good then, almost).
The other option is that I’m already decided on crediting the UA flight with BMI, so should I credit my forthcoming SK flight with BMI too and get silver with BMI in the meantime? (I’ll go to Japan again later in 2005 so I’d get my silver status later with OZ).
Even though I want OZ gold (for future stress free travel) the BMI miles and cash scheme is FANTASTIC. (It would mean a very cheap flight to Alaska next year)
For Mr LapLap uncredited ANA flights – would it be worth putting them on UA’s Mileage scheme. He’d only get 50% of the miles on ANA and they’d expire.
Suggestions and advice would be VERY welcome. (I really meant it about MrLapLap being phobic about this, I’m really not able to discuss it at all – it makes him feel quite ill).
