I'm not sure what US Airlines you've been on lately, but the whole concept of "screen on the seatback" is very dated. Most new planes don't provide seatback entertainment in the USA. They'll happily stream content to your own device (which is lighter and easier for everyone) but no 'on board screens.'
this year i went on united airlines a320. It did not have screens but it did have PDE, which i am ok with. UA and AA are getting rid of screens, while DL has screens on most of its aircraft
