I was there last month in Beijing. I have the regular T-Mobile global coverage that comes with your phone, I didn't upgrade any higher speed nor purchase any international day passes. The service worked quite well, I didn't have any issues at all, So with the upgrade and speed I guess you'll be fine. I even had good service on the great wall..
