IC Presidente Cancun

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes for the most part

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Deluxe Oceanfront because when we stayed here 2 years ago, the 2 Category upgrade was confirmed to be Club King Oceanfront on 6th Floor (designated Club Floor). For this trip, we were upgraded about 2 weeks prior to our arrival to a Resort Suite Lagoon View. I emailed the hotel a day or two before we checked in, indicating what was considered a 2 Cat upgrade previously and never received a response. Finally, I called the RA line and they contacted the hotel and worked it out. We ended up receiving the Club King Oceanfront (I'm sure the lagoon view was OK, but I really wanted Oceanfront).

How are the rooms?
The Club Floor room is nice with a balcony and sun loungers. The room isn't huge but in addition to the bed, there is a desk, couch, coffee table. The bathroom is very open -- it would be weird staying in this room with someone besides my husband. But separate shower stall, toilet and with a bathtub. Agraria amenities, though. They do provide aloe and lip balm which is a nice touch.

How is the exec. lounge?
Located on the first floor next to the lobby. Breakfast is buffet only, no made to order eggs are advertised (I'm sure you could ask). But decent selection of fruit, cheese, cereal, pastries, bread, bagels and hot items including scrambled eggs and potatoes that are different every day, sausages/bacon, pancakes. The cocktail hour has self serve wine/beer and the staff can make whatever drink you want. They also do not let your glass go empty and are extremely attentive! For food, there were small canapes that changed daily, in addition to cheeses. veggies, bread plus several hot items (usually at least one seafood, one vegetarian, one meat). It was enough for us that on most nights we didn't even go to dinner. The lounge is open in between breakfast and cocktails, but they don't have afternoon snacks/tea.

Did you receive a welcome gift?
Nothing. The fruit was one small piece of watermelon, one piece of pineapple. Last time we received a bottle of Mexican liquor that I saw was being delivered to other rooms. We did end up getting a different room assigned on check-in because our flight got in about 45 minutes early so could have been an oversight.

How was the minibar?
Pretty lame. 4 beers that were about 6 ozs each and only 3 little bottles of booze (one tequila, one vodka, one JD), no wine. They did have gatorade, perrier. pistachios and cashews. Prices were really low and bar was so limited, so we never got even close to hitting $50/day (and drank the beers and booze every day). We did have to call almost every day to get a refill, though.

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
The views from the balcony and the location on a beautiful beach with plenty of chairs and shade. No chair saving is necessary.
The room rate we had included $150 food and beverage credit, which was great for beach drinks and snacks! The micheladas were amazing.
The staff in the lounge were exceptional!
Front desk staff were very helpful and friendly

-Bad
Minibar selection
Emailed the hotel 2X prior to arrival and they never responded
Tried to charge the $9/day "resort fee" but when I showed them the RA T&C, they eventually waived it.
Not much RA recognition plus change in what they previously considered a 2 cat upgrade

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
Yes

Would you return?
Yes
