Imo, if you're looking for 10k points, it's much more cost effective to find a lower reward hotel, purchase as many extra points as the booking process offers, and book as many nights as you need to get your points. I can almost always find 'deals' for 3.5c or less a point, even if I assign no value to the hotel stay. If you're actually planning on the stay anyway, the value gets better.
My work is very kind to me about this - I long ago asked them to come up with a fair reimbursement rate for when I use my points to book a room. Sometimes I choose to pay out of pocket to earn points instead. It rarely covers all of my extra points, and I don't stay in particularly nice places, but if I wanted to, I'd earn CP next year with only hotel stays, even with the increase.
