By FT standards, badgering contract ground staff for solutions is not really "proactive". Did you check what flights were for sale between LHR and ZRH/GVA/BSL? Even high-quality ground staff are severely overworked during IRROPS and you will get much, much further with "I see that flight LX xxx this evening has seats left, could you please confirm me on that" rather than "you need to get me to Zurich tonight".
