UA not checking baggage overnight (per its published rules) has nothing to do with the rules applicable to upgrade pricing or clearance.
I trust in Kacee for sure sorry didn't know to distinguish the bag rule and the stopover rule from UA. That was my misunderstanding. I'll leave the BOM-EWR-SFO request in place but now what about the outbound. Because I've used up all my friend's PlusPoints for this year. So if I cancel the mileage upgrade, it will require 10/20 PlusPoints alone for that segment I believe. It won't let me upgrade LAX-EWR-BOM together for 30 plus points. It's taking 10/20 for the first leg, and then 30 for the second leg, unlike the return where it's processing all in one leg. I'm open to ideas.

I agree with that for sure. There weren't any issues getting the return journey BOM-EWR-SFO on a single PointsPlus upgrade. The problem was on the outbound where it wouldn't allow LAX-EWR to be bought with EWR-BOM. it would charge to upgrade EWR-BOM and then separately charge for LAX-EWR, not sure why though......I'm open to any suggestions of workarounds to get that first flight on a GS upgrade rather than miles on my lowly gold status
