Most of the time, if you're upgraded to a room on a club floor, lounge access is included. This was an old SPG rule, but it's YMMV now. Some hotels might be willing to sell you a club level upgrade for a modest amount of money or points, or you could decide when booking that the price difference (in money or points) makes doing this worthwhile.
Otherwise I would expect this to be more likely at legacy Marriott properties than legacy Starwoods, where Golds weren't entitled to lounge access.
Yup, it's a legacy Marriott in Calgary. They do it for GEs regardless of the room category you're in.
It's so appreciated and it's why I go back there every time.
