Do you seriously believe that people who don't even pay enough attention to realize that the points can be extended would then be "flooding" MileagePlus with questions about a benefit that was obviously to their advantage?
I don't really fault UA for not extending them automatically, because I think they're trying to keep it from turning into an entitlement; that allows them to discontinue the benefit more easily if they find they need to do so (e.g., if upgrade inventory exceeds their desired range). But to praise them for preventing a flood of questions is not reasonable. (Also: wouldn't those same people have been flooding MileagePlus with questions about these weird new "PlusPoints" that showed up?)
