While I can't speak for H, I've had "fancy" hotel breakfasts so often that it's a nice change of pace to venture out in the morning and find some local fare. Not that I recommend anyone do this now (these days everything has to be written with that cya crap), but I still, even in the midst of the unrests, often walk out to the Mong Kok area and dine there. You'll often find some wonderful food from street Merchants and local restaurants.
These days if it's between handing over my hard earned money to a Corp entity or a local independent merchant, I'd pick the latter every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
PS - nowadays, even with the fanciest hotel breakfast, I generally just have coffee, even when it's free for me.
Pretty much the same for me. I live in hotels full time, and honestly need to reduce my food intake. I'm also incredibly bored of fancy hotel breakfast buffets. I hate buffets. So these days I grab my free breakfast only 20% of the time, unless I'm at a hotel with an a-la-carte menu. When there are a-la-carte options I do tend to indulge.
