Indeed I found availability on the same dates.
Your explanation about booking far ahead might be right, but I did try some bookings back in July for December (and checked regularly) but did not get availabilty for the one-week window I was looking at. A very few weeks in October/November showed wide availability but not many. On the other hand my AM account showed wide AVIOS availability throughout until flight date. TPE-BKK also showed wide availability for my dates, but not HKG-BKK,
