With all do respect, I understand that sometimes the media broadcasts the wrong information, but as I previously posted, Broward County made the decision to close the airport. I even posted the direct quote from Broward County, including a link to the Broward County site, and yet you still call this "heresay"? What more do you need in order to understand that Broward County closed the airport?
I certainly do not think that a press release issued on Thursday,
directly from the airport operator would be considered "heresay."
For the record, this is the link I am referring to is

The Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport will remain open today, however, travelers should call their airline prior to arriving at the Airport. The Airport will cease both inbound and outbound passenger airline flights effective 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. The terminals are not hurricane shelters and no one will be allowed to remain in the buildings during the storm. Motorists are also advised that the airport’s parking facilities are not suitable for vehicle storage during the hurricane.
I am also perplexed as to which local channels you watched, because all (CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, WB, UPN) of the local affiliates here in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami have been doing nonstop hurricane coverage, and each of them has been reporting that FLL would close at 10am on Friday. There has been nothing else on TV.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport:
* The airport is currently closed until further notice.
In fact, even the Weather Channel is reporting that FLL is closed http://www.weather.com/newscenter/to...ladvisory.html
Airport Closings
* Melbourne International Airport - CLOSED
* Fort Lauderdale International Airport - CLOSED
* Orlando International Airport - CLOSED
* Palm Beach International Airport - CLOSED
* Miami International Airport - ALL AIRLINES HAVE CEASED OPERATIONS
* Tampa International Airport - CONTACT YOUR AIRLINE, AS OPERATIONS MAY CEASE DUE TO WEATHER
As I previously posted, UA operated flights at MIA (21 miles away) until 6pm on Friday, and they would have likely done the same at FLL had the airport been open. They were unable to do so, since the airport was closed.
