This is not just for close-in bookings. Award stays in July/August are now subject to this one-night deposit as well, which wasn't the case last week. We don't know yet if this will be an immediate charge on the credit card or they will just charge it upon arrival.
Edit: it seems it's not just a one-night deposit. It's a deposit for the length of the entire stay (on points). For example, for a five night stay from March 23 to 28 in BV, it will cost you 380,000 points PLUS an initial deposit of $4,926.40 USD...

Seriously, you don't think they're going to swipe the card, i.e; initiate a payment?! The worst that could happen is a hold on the funds. Not saying that's OK by any means, though and I don't know how long they could put a hold on any funds. It's probably just for bookings less than 30 or 60 days out or something like that.
