I don't know if anyone has read deep into the fine print but there are some pretty stiff cancellation penalties on the free service. While it is free, the speed of the free service is about that of a bonded ISDN connection, speeds that come close to what you get by paying regular price to your phone company or others.... well... are about the same as what you pay your phone company or others....

I know BellSouth has no contract, term or cancellation penalty for its DSL service. Others may be similar. Just beware of the cancellation fees if you decide to use them.
