It's my understanding that AKL won't allow overnight bag transfer even for int'l to int'l or domestic to int'l connection, whereas in most major Asian airports the general rule is as long as the connection is under 24 hours, there is no problem.

UA also have the policy of no overnight transfer so I assume it's the same in the US.
