I am a US passport holder with one recent Turkish entry stamp among dozens of other countries (i.e., not a new passport with just a Turkish entry). I am arriving on LH428 at 11:50 local. Looking to select an onward flight to Japan, which will on a separate ticket, and I will be checking bags, so I am certain that I'll be collecting and rechecking.

I am anticipating between a 3 and a 6 hour layover at PVG. I have no plans to leave the airport, though my airline choice could require a terminal change.

For purposes of discussion, I could have the following same-day itinerary:

LH728 arrive PVG 1150 (T2)

Connecting to:

CA919 PVG-NRT departs 1430 (T2)
MU575 PVG-HND departs 1710 (T1)
NH960 PVG-NRT departs 1720 (T2)
HO1335 PVG-KIX departs 1740 (T2)

I do not hold a Chinese visa, but can probably obtain one. For the advice sought here, I am only looking to evaluate the feasibility of a TWOV in this situation.

Some questions:
- Does a terminal change (T2>T1 and vice versa on the return) have any impact on entry permits, like 'landside' permit at PEK?
- I have APEC, would it be meaningful in this case?
- Any reasonable concern for denial?
- Any other issues?

I appreciate everyone's help!
Don't sweat this; the path of least resistance is letting you continue on your journey.
