UA already has agreements in place with CX to carry HKG-BKK traffic. I would think they should be able to get a passenger reticketed on CX — if there is available space. However, if HX were to go under, CX flights would suddenly become incredibly hot commodities. TG could be tougher but would be worth asking for. UA would prefer not to refund the entire trip if there is a reasonable way to salvage it.
