In addition unless you already hold an IB account to transfer your Avios to, you won't be able to carry this out quickly as the IB account needs to be active 90 days from creation before you can transfer any BA Avios to it.

The OP might just need to suck this one up and pay the fees.

Alternatively they could price up on ba.com and either use Avios to reduce the cost of paid tickets or use Avios to upgrade into a higher cabin, although BA slap on additional TFC's when upgrading which seem disproportionately high when starting in the US.
