So I went ahead and booked the NRT-MNL segment as an award ticket using our EVA miles. To my disappointment, the tickets were waitlisted (tons of normal availability though on ExpertFlyer). Now I am in a holding pattern before I can purchase the rest of our trip - PDX to NRT outbound and MNL to PDX inbound - since it would be useless for me to purchase tickets and be stuck in NRT without a confirmed flight to MNL.
How long should I reasonably wait for the award tix to clear before starting to think of other airlines and/or dates? I'm worried that if I wait too long, the price of the fares on my non award legs would start to creep up. I tried calling the EVA hotline and they just said that all I can do is to wait for the WL to clear and they couldn't give me an estimate as to when it would clear. My wife and I are Silver and my son is Green if that makes any difference.
I have a feeling I should start making alternative plans but I thought I would see if anyone had other thoughts. Thanks!
