Wow I feel so old.

STS-134, I don't even know where to start, but you might find the history of the U.S. aviation industry fascinating.

OK maybe I do know where to start - here: Until not that long ago (as in, within my lifetime and I like to think I am not THAT old), only two U.S. airlines, neither of which still exist today, were allowed to have transatlantic and transpacific operations. What we consider to be the "majors" today (UA, AA, DL) could only operate domestically, with some exceptions to Canada and Mexico.

Things have come a long way in a short period of time. As an example, it was quite a fight for AA to be allowed to fly even DFW-LHR. I think that wasn't allowed until like the 1990s, maybe even 2000s?
