Notwithstanding the other advice above, I suggest you store a copy of the report of this traffic backlog from the Dutch AA site in case you need to produce it at some later date. A 16km traffic jam must be very rare indeed. I am also of the view that this is a BA problem and your family (and/or you) should not be left out of pocket.
