I'm looking for an official policy because my father recently flew in business (economy upgraded via GPU) in the 3rd row and did not get his meal choice. While this probably happens to everyone at some point he strongly felt he was discriminated against. I'm trying to find some official policy to convince him otherwise, though this may be hopeless.

The policy seems to be GS / 1K then front to back. With 8 rows of Polaris business it seems 3rd row has pretty good chances.

For the record, I'm inclined to believe it was simply due to his lack of status and having an upgraded seat.
Given he (your Dad) was in first on an upgrade it makes sense that’s at the bottom of the priority list. I’ve only seen policy about GS meal priority, although it makes sense that it applies to 1K as well. As a guy who has spent many years up front using RPU’s or GPU’s I was always understanding of the meal policy. To me it’s all about the seat, it’s rare that I think twice about the food. Maybe my standards are too high.
