This thought did cross my mind, but there is distinct possibility that she wouldn't be permitted to leave PVG during that long transit, and this would suck. Moreover, I'm guessing the visa fee would be cheaper than the HK side trip, even if it is same airplane turn.

We would spend a night at the airport and should have enough time to do the transits.
