Thus you need to call VS anyways to book. I would thus ask about this if you sense you have a good booking agent (and 80%+ are in my experience with Virgin Flying club).
I do suspect this is a scenario where it MAY pay to only use the 2f1 for the outbound, and suffer the extra points inbound but save on the 'carrier imposed surcharges' from GRU.
First agent told me it's not possible, that the companion voucher can only be used on return flights. I knew he was wrong as you could use the companion voucher on multi city flights.

Called again and the second operator managed to split the ticket in 2 one way flights and apply the voucher. So it depends on who speak to.
This way i paid for London-Miami, return Sao Paolo-London 30.5k points + £431 in Economy using voucher. Pretty decent i might say, although I was told i won't be able to upgrade to Premium due to using the companion voucher, not even at the airport.
