Yeah thats the problem. PVG-HKG is only like 67€ per Person on Cathay. My only fear is that the cheap fly back with "Spring Airlines" from MCM-PVG might become problematic if they are not fully aware of the TWOV rules.
I flew Spring BKK-PVG last year and no problems using TWOV. All correctly processed at BKK, minimum of time taken.
If you are concerned, allow extra time at MFM (don’t turn up too close to checkin closing time). Spring uses the same TIMATIC as all other airlines.
