The question is, if you had the old and free "tray" meal, would there have been less plastic in it? And I'm talking legacy days before they started to enhance the meal service. I will never forget one of my first euroflights on KLM between AMS and LHR and getting the full 3 course meal served to us on a 45 min flight in Y. Pretty sure it was just foil lids on the main dish, plastic lids on the starter/salad and desert. Maybe plastic on the bread roll? No disposable plastic cups but reusable ones. Cutlery was of course metal in those days, but the question is what is more eco friendly, disposing of single use light weight cutlery or the extra fuel needed to carry the metal cutlery? And that's before you start looking at washing the metal cutlery or manufacturing all the plastic ones.
Was it the M&S Turkey with Pigs in Blanket sandwich you had? I had that today and am still craving water after the saltiness of it. The pigs totally smothered the turkey in their blankets. There were some other options, like just a turkey and stuffing one I think and a steak one. My favourite xmas sandwich so far is from Paul with Eat a close second. May try Greggs tomorrow!
