Surely the other point here is that if you are at risk of missing the connection, then being in the connections queue gives you some protection in the event that you do?
The danger area is when you get near to a connection time of 35 minutes, from the scan in front of security, hence the references to 1 hour above. There are some differences in the timelines in Flight Connections versus main security, but once you are well over 35 minutes it makes no difference. Even 1 hour is me being conservative, you could do it on less time. In any event the protection of onward travel on the same ticket isn't directly linked to the precise security channel you used.
