Any Way Out of This Ticketing Mess (truncated version first name)?

A couple of weeks ago my wife booked a one way ticket for each of us from Portugal to Atlanta using Membership Rewards points. When filling in names she put "Ken" instead of "Kenneth" on my ticket. The flights involves TAP Airlines and JetBlue. TAP won't change the name and referred me back to AmEx. AmEx requested the name change and told us the the request was denied since there are 2 different airlines on this itinerary. I asked AmEx if they could just drop the JetBlue segment but was told that would incur a $735 fee.
In order to change my name, my entire ticket would have to be re-booked. Every time I check, the fare for the same flights it is about double what we paid. The ticket was approximately $1000 and we used 100K MR points.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this problem I'd be eternally grateful.
