Hilton Garden Inn Liberia Airport = Useful for Overnight Before a Flight
Introduction I had a quick overnight in Hilton Garden Inn Liberia Airport. The hotel is not particularly cheap for what you get but it saves money relative to spending the last night of a trip in a resort and it’s more convenient especially if you have a morning flight. I would not use it as a base to explore Costa Rica for a longer trip, but our stay at this property was ok and I can recommend it for a quick stay as long as expectations are realistic. Location The hotel is very close to the airport and easy to find. We saw several signs on the side of the roads indicating the direction to HGI even when were still 50+ km away from the hotel. The shuttle bus to the airport runs every 15 minutes which is a convenient schedule. Room I booked the entry level room and when we arrived at the hotel around noon we were offered this room type right away, or wait about one hour for an upgrade to a junior suite. We chose the latter although I would note that the price difference between the two room types is not very significant. The room was clean, spacious, and in good condition so that was sufficient for a one-night stay and it included a sofa-bed which might be convenient to some travellers. The bathroom had some kind of handicapped-accessible shower with curtains rather than a regular shower, but anyway that is still better than a shower in the bathtub and the water pressure was fine. The bathroom amenities were Neutrogena as is standard in other HGI brand hotels. Soundproofing was not the best and because our room was close to the elevator it did not help matters. We could clearly hear people using the ice machine on the other side of the elevators from our room. However this was not the main issue – our sleep was not the best because of the air conditioning wall units– one of them was very close to the bed, it was noisy and kept starting and stopping several times during the night. Dining I was surprised to see that alcohol at the hotel was expensive, at about the same price level as high end resorts elsewhere in the country, rather than more modest prices due to the mid-scale HGI brand. However we received a couple of wine glasses as a Diamond welcome amenity which was nicer than what we normally get at HGI elsewhere so we appreciated it.Breakfast was decent and included a beef stew and gallo pinto rather than only traditional boring breakfast options. The restaurant itself is pleasant and did not feel overcrowded. Wifi Wifi was ok but not great, with speeds of 5-6 Mbps and it worked without interruptions. Overall Overall our stay was decent and I can recommend HGI LIR for an overnight near the airport. I would not hesitate to book there again when in the region for the night before a morning flight.
