We like this place - especially since we have seen progress...we went there last summer for a weekend stay and thought exactly what others did; hotel was nice and rooms were good but the service was lacking.
Went back this summer and things showed marked improvement. Was able to get more personal recommendations from the concierge, the attendants at the pool were more on top of getting you lunch, and all in all it was a great stay.
Are headed back next weekend - this time with our son (9 mos old) and our dogs with us; we noticed dogs were allowed and are looking forward to bringing them with us. Have had numerous conversations with the front desk and rooms manager with respect to this stay and expect everything to go well. While staying on FFN we are getting connecting rooms in the dog wing and I can call in advance to figure out what Platinum amenity they can offer - a stuffed crab sounds like a nice gift for the kid, but might just as well take the 1000 dining points...
Again - I'll report when we get back but we really like this place. As random as this may sound, the most important thing we like is the mini-fridge in the room; with dogs, kids - being able to pack and bring snacks and food will make this as close to a trip to OBX as possible.
Lastly - though my son is too young now - I would agree that the game room, pool tables, shuffleboard, and other activities (including a waterslide) are fun for all ages!
