It also seems like some of the rooms have been half-assed with the redesign. Lots of complaints about the food. It sounds like the Diamond treatment is borderline abusive at times.

The positive reviews are very short and sweet, which is never a good sign in general.
"Minefield of various horrors" is a bit dramatic, no?

Granted, long wait times for check-in are unacceptable. At 562 suites, Conrad New York Midtown is large but manageable.

The complaints about food are mostly ridiculous. Do not stay at a luxury hotel in Manhattan if you do not wish to pay a premium for food. Complaints about the Hilton Honors breakfast benefit are also ridiculous. As already discussed here, the $30/person F&B credit covers the continental breakfast option, and full hot buffet is available at a modest upcharge. That offering fully meets requirements of loyalty program.

Impressions of service seem to range from "cold" to outstanding, so hardly a dumpster fire.

I don't mean to suggest that everything is perfect. But the more reasonable reviews suggest Conrad New York Midtown is a very nice hotel that's still working out some kinks.
