The irony is of course is that China is the cheapest international destination for reward flights. So 20,000 miles or 100,000+ yen, hmmm, let me think!

How about Across travel, HIS , etc. Take a look at Yahoo Japan and there are lots of economy fares for under 60,000 yen. But you are right it is expensive to go to the mainland, it's kind of like flying domestic in Japan .

My suggestion to you would be to get a cheapie to HK , then take the bus or train across the border to Shenzen and fly from there. The domestic internal flights are quite cheap. This is of course if you aren't in a rush and are looking for some adventure !
