I had a partial amount dispute for about $15. Since I didn't know how to classify it on the web site, I just called them. They approved the dispute while I was still on the phone! Obviously the vendor had no chance to respond to the dispute. I suspect it was because of the small amount or maybe the vendor's history with AmEx?
